Is President Trump working on ending the war in Ukraine? You can say that. Since he took office he has not imposed a single sanction on Russia. He has removed several sanctions allegedly as they pertain to Syria but they affect some of the same companies which enable Russia to conduct the war in Ukraine. He has stopped aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. He resumed it only to stop it again. Most recently at the NATO Summit Trump promised more Patriots for Ukraine. Now the Pentagon announced that some equipment earmarked for Ukraine will be going back into America’s stockpile. In summary the Trump administration has enhanced Russia by depriving Ukraine. Russia has amassed 50,000 troops on Ukraine’s northern border and has boasted that it seeks to take over and annex five additional Ukrainian regions. It would appear that Trump’s strategy to end the war is a Russian victory.
“As far as we understand, the reason for the decision was empty warehouses, but the fewer weapons supplied to Ukraine, the closer the end of the ‘special military operation,’” Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said
If you can’t believe Peskov, you cannot believe Trump. Trump is an evil human being as I have often remarked so his predisposition for dictators such as Putin is not surprising. His mendacity is inveterate and psychotic. Ukraine and President Zelensky have to continue playing a game of political hopefulness. The rest of the world and America itself have to be more challenging.
The recent votes in the Senate and the House on the “Big Beautiful Bill” are somewhat hopeful. The fear of primary armor is acquiring chinks. At least three members of the GOP in the Senate not only voted their conscience, but voted for their constituents rather than bend a knee to what they know to be evil. Initially, nine Reps in the House withheld their votes so the Bill could not proceed in a timely fashion. Those nine are shrinking. Rewarding the rich and punishing the poor is a manifest of amorality.
With Trump as president and the GOP scared, America has become one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Trump had a university which defrauded people. Now he is sold out to the crypto currency industry and his holdings constitute 80% of all his ill-gotten assets. His presidency has monetised. He is selling bibles and cologne. Can he be stopped because 2028 seems far away and three and one-half years is an ample opportunity to destroy a democracy.
There is another factor here that should be addressed – the Ukrainian American electorate that voted for Trump. Some have jumped the MAGA ship after seeing what their “Napoleon” from “Animal Farm” is doing. Often they joke about their new found remorse. However, the damage caused by Trump is not a joke. I for one am unable to forgive them irrespective of whether they were inspired by personal greed or stupidity. They will always be traitors as far as Ukraine is concerned.
I believe that Ukraine will survive this American debacle of democracy and evil. Ukraine and Europe have already stepped up. Ukraine supplies more than 50% of its military hardware and the spirit of the Ukrainian people is remarkable. Europe is spending significantly more on defense.
I am really not concerned about the Republican Party, but the Party is in serious trouble and a legitimate two party system is important. The fringes will remain that – fringes. One man caused a Grand Old Party to become a travesty of itself. Its immediate future will be reflected in the midterm elections in 2026. That, however, will not be determinative since all parties decline in the next election after they assume substantial power. In due course I assume that some morality and concern for constituents will prevail. But that will take some time. Morality has never been a strong characteristic of politicians.
On the eve of America’s Day of Independence it is important to consider its future. The future of America as a beacon of light is of great concern. While America was never exceptional as Americans often say, it was a model for many nascent democracies. That model is very much broken. There is a Constitutional crisis in America as the three branches of government meant to serve as a system of checks and balances are in the evil hands of one thug. The undoing of what has been done will take some time, but the Constitution will prevail even if it is tattered by the current regime .
