The Betrayal

By Askold Lozynskyj

On the heels of America’s shameless vote with the Russians at the United Nations General Assembly, which aside from exposing America’s lack of morality also manifested global opposition to America’s latest foray into the world of bullying and imperialism, the White House staged a Kremlin scripted ambush and sabotage. It turned out to be a bizarre oval office press conference.

It was Trump at his most ignorant, forgetting historical facts, financial details, strong arming and talking over his guest. He was surrounded by his sycophants for support.

The primary takeaway is that Ukraine and Europe now realize that the free democratic world needs a new leader because America has joined the enemy camp, the camp of Russia, Iran, North Korea. Even China has been reluctant to join.

I suppose that it was a decent run for America with achievements but many betrayals. America will be remembered for both. As long as America is wealthy, achievements will be embellished while betrayals will be attributed to overwhelming circumstances.

The framework for a Ukraine-U.S. Reconstruction Investment Fund was to be the subject for the White House meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine Zelensky and of the United States Donald J. Trump.  It never got that far. President Zelensky was ambushed by Trump and his VP Vance and the rest of the program was cancelled.

Trump’s worldview, his intellectual capacity and thuggish behavior were on full display. VP Vance was personally and actively invested as an appendage, certainly not according to any accepted protocol. Still the hillbilly Vance may be a quandary until such time as he becomes an independent actor. After all, he once called Trump a Nazi. Until then he is simply a sycophant, but loud, brash and offensive.

I was reminded of a characterization of Trump given by a British expert on Sky News after the Trump-Starmer meeting. He stated that Trump had a butterfly mind. He explained that his mind or focus were fleeting. Trump could not say the same thing twice. He could not remember that he had called Zelensky a dictator. Nor could he remember that Putin broke a ceasefire in December 2019 pursuant to a Paris agreement. This happened on Trump’s watch.

The butterfly suddenly gains focus when it comes to Putin. Like a parrot Trump kept reiterating his long standing relationship with his friend Putin. Trump stated unequivocally that he was not on Ukraine’s side. Inasmuch as there are only two sides, the only conclusion can be that Trump and, I suppose, America are on Russia’s side.

If ever there was doubt as to whether Trump is a Russian asset, it may have been dispelled. This may be a subject for another analysis following serious investigations. However, the circumstantial evidence surrounding Trump, his first wife Ivana and Russia through its KGB is certainly more than enough for a grand jury indictment.

For me there is only one outtake from this latest event. The democratic free world including Ukraine and Europe needs a new leader. Following this latest fiasco, European leaders made that point very clear. The United States of America, the bastion of liberty and democracy, is very much afflicted with cancerous growth – Trump. This cancer has metastasized throughout America’s political body.

Later that evening President Zelensky appeared on Fox News. Three times the interviewer Brett Baeir suggested that Zelensky had somehow offended America and should apologize. This script must have been taken from “The Godfather.” Don Trump may have instructed Fox to make that suggestion.

President Zelensky had been treated discourteously as an enemy contrary to any international protocol, but he stood his ground. When asked rudely whether he would resign, he calmly replied that he was elected by the Ukrainian people and their will shall prevail.

Ukraine and Europe lost an ally, but no one came away more disturbed than the American people.
