The command echelon of Russia’s formidable 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade has been completely decimated, according to a military blogger. The storied brigade, which has seen intense combat throughout eastern Ukraine and the region of Kursk, has faced such severe losses that it has undergone repeated reconstitution since the outbreak of hostilities in February 2022.
The US-based Institute for the Study of War has asserted that the Kremlin has had to reforge this unit at least eight times within a span of just over three years.
The brigade seems to have encountered yet another devastating blow on the battlefield amidst ongoing operations in Ukraine, reports Daily Express UK.
A livid Russian military blogger alleges that the brigade’s entire command was annihilated by HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) in a pinpoint strike.
His frustrations spilled over in a social media video where he lamented: “Nobody’s telling us that the entire command of the 155th brigade got f***ing wiped out because four HIMARS hit the target dead-on.”
The Russian command post was located in Donetsk, Ukraine, it’s being reported
The blogger added: “Because our electric warfare systems are not working. That’s the kind of bullsh*t we’re dealing with, guys.”
The brigade engaged in the fierce and costly siege of Vuhledar in southern Donetsk during the spring of 2023 – a battle so intensive that, at times, up to 300 marines per day were reported as casualties.
As recounted to the 7×7 regional news outlet by one of the group’s surviving marines, the attrition was so excessive that a mere eight soldiers remained standing in one particular naval infantry assault company.
“I wish I had been taken prisoner and never returned,” he lamented, voicing his discontent with the officers’ treatment of their soldiers.
This news surfaces as a former brigade commander met his end during “combat work” in Russia’s western Kursk region.
Appointed by Vladimir Putin as deputy head of the Russian Navy in March, Major General Mikhail Gudkov suffered a mortal blow.
Gudkov’s untimely death marks one of the most significant Russian casualties since the full-scale incursion into Ukraine began.
A missile strike near Korenevo, roughly 30km (19 miles) from the Ukrainian border, claimed his life.
