APPEAL TO THE UKRAINIAN CANADIAN COMMUNITY
            With the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence in 1991, the diaspora was presented with unprecedented opportunities in all spheres of interest to aid Ukrainians, both in Ukraine and in countries of the Eastern diaspora, as they embarked on their nation - building process.
            Throughout the past 17 years, the value of humanitarian assistance projects in Ukraine and donations for various causes initiated by the Conference of Ukrainian National Organizations of Canada and its membership has been substantial. In 2007-2008 alone, the Conference of Ukrainian National Organizations of Canada (CUNOC) donated over $100,000.00 to various projects for the purpose of facilitating a national renaissance in Ukraine. The report on CUNOC’s humanitarian assistance can be read each year in the first edition of the community newspaper “Ukrainian Echo.”
Some of the most current projects include:
  1. assistance in promoting the English-language exhibit “Holodomor: Genocide by Famine”, created by the League of Ukrainian Canadians and shown in major public centres in Canada, the USA, Ukraine and other countries on an ongoing basis; To receive a tax-deductible receipt, please make cheque payable to Holodomor Education Fund.
  2. assistance for children of the Chornobyl zone and orphans;
  3. assistance for educational youth camps in Ukraine called “Lysonya”;
  4. assistance for students and schools in Ukraine;
  5. assistance for the youth centre in Rivne, Ukraine called “Patriot”;
  6. assistance for the All-Ukrainian League of Ukrainian Women in Ukraine in projects promoting the revival of national traditions;
  7. assistance in supplying books, periodicals and newspapers to libraries and universities in Ukraine;
  8. assistance for veterans of OUN-UPA in Ukraine;
  9. assistance for researching the war of liberation fought by the OUN-UPA;
  10. assistance in promoting the “Year of Mazepa” in Ukraine on the 300-year anniversary of his death, as well as in supporting the reconstruction of the Cossack capital Baturyn.

The Conference of Ukrainian Organizations of Canada works closely with three charitable organizations in Ukraine: the All-Ukrainian League of Ukrainian Women, the National Renaissance Centre and the Sobornist Foundation. Therefore, the Humanitarian Assistance Committee of the Conference of Ukrainian National Organizations of Canada appeals to the Ukrainian community to continue its support of our projects in Ukraine. Your contribution will bring hope to those in need at a time of great change in Ukraine’s society.

As Chair of the Humanitarian Assistance Committee, I invite you to continue to help Ukrainians in Ukraine, where opportunities in the humanitarian sphere are limitless.
The Conference of Ukrainian National Organizations of Canada has, throughout its more thаn 50-year history, always focused its activities on fostering the national interests of the Ukrainian people and assisting the Ukrainian nation in realizing its aspirations for independence.
I am certain that your contribution will bring hope to those in need at a time of great change in Ukraine’s society.
